The Atlantic Puffin

Map: Puffin rangeThis Blog post is just basic information about Atlantic Puffin. I feel like when I hear the word Puffin I think of an absolutely adorable creature, but that's not the case here. Well I guess you can call it "cute". Well first of all these creature are carnivores, which I think makes them less cute ,considering it can possibly eat your flesh!!!!. But other than that they can live 20 years in the wild. They are 25 cm in size and their group name is a Colony. I know what you might think, this creature has an attractive beak ,well that has led some to dub them the "sea parrot". They live in coastal areas as shown in the picture. Well, we can see that they live in coastal areas of Quebec, Greenland, Iceland, Europe and small parts of Africa. So basically in the  areas of the Atlantic ocean. Atlantic Puffins live most of their lives at sea, but return to land to form breeding colonies during the spring and summer. In addition to that statement ,they are excellent swimmers. They can go depths of 61 meters and can stay under water for 20-30 seconds. During their underwater journey, they hunt small fish such as the herring or sand eels. The one thing that surprised me was that they are fleet flyers. They can flap their wings 400 times per minute and can reach 55 miles (88 km) in an hour. Wow!!. During the spring and summer, the females lay a single egg and the parents take turns incubating it. The breeding and hatching usually take place in Iceland .As Iceland is the breeding home of  60% of the world's Atlantic Puffins. Every year Puffin couples reunite at the same burrow, but it is unclear of how the birds reunite to their own grounds. Do they use visual reference points, smells, sounds, Earth's magnetic fields, the stars? We don't know yet , but  what do you think?

How Do Muscles Respond To Exercise

So basically, muscles are made up of long, thin cells called muscle fibres and as the muscle contracts, it produces an acid known as the lactic acid. This acid is like a poison that has the effect of making you tired by making your muscles feel tired. If this acid is removed from the tired muscle, it stops feeling tired and you could get right back to work again. But, this acid is not removed normally when you exercise and various toxins are produced when your muscles are active. These toxins are carried  by the blood through the body, which cause tiredness throughout the entire body, especially the brain. Hence, the tiredness of exercise is the result of internal poisoning. Your body really needs this feeling of tiredness in order to make you want to rest. When you are resting waste products are removed, the cells recover from exertion or recuperate , nerve cells of the brain recharge their batteries.
So while exercise is good for the body and muscles-rest is just as important

My Favorite Poem Of The Month

This is one of my personal favorites. This poem is from the book I am reading called "The Legend Of  Luke". "The Tale of Redwall" by: Brian Jacques

A poem about justice, courage and bravery

The young must grow old ,
Whilst old ones grow older,
And cowards will shrink,
As the bold grow bolder.
Courage may blossom in quite hearts,
For who can tell where bravery starts?
Truth is a song, oft lying unsung,
Some mother bird, protecting her young,
Those who lay down their lives for friends,
The echo rolls onward, it seldom ends.
Who never turned and ran, but stayed?
This is a warrior born, not made!
Living in peace , aye many a season,
Calm in life and sound in reason,
'Til evil arrives, a wicked horde,
Driving a warrior to pick up his sword,
The challenger rings then, straight and fair,
Justice is with us, beware. Beware!

The Reason Behind The Title Of This Blog

Like every person I too was inspired to create a blog. So what if I am 13, I have a voice and I will shout as loud as I can. I thought of every thing that could create a good blog, but when it came to the title my brain slowed down. I tried to think as hard as I possibly could and went to many different sites that have good blog titles. I was so desperate that I searched up a list of dog names. Then it hit me(baaammm!!!!) I would make the title something in nature and something related to my province. Then I searched up the national or provincial flower of Ontario which obviously was the White Trillium. This flower has been Ontario's provincial flower since 1937. Everything on the flower is in the impression of 3, like 3 petals and 3 leaves. That's why it is called the Trillium, as Tri is 3. Also during the course of my blog I will be sharing all sorts of things like my favorite cook and recipes, my hamsters, my fish and some exciting days in my life so on................... Since I have summer vacation right now I have some time to do blogging because the rest of the time I am either studying, playing etc.
